Fredericton High school has over two thousand students. Every day students pass each other in the hallway and observe contrasting styles of clothing highlighting everyone's personal flair. While some express themselves through art or writing, others may find an outlet through their clothes. Whether you chose to wear sweatpants or jeans, bright colors or muted tones, what you wear may tell people all they need to know.
What makes the difference between those who accessorize, coordinate, and edit, and those who simply get dressed? This week we took to the hallways to take photos and interview students who showed exceptional care and devotion to their attire; looking for those who are bold and confident in their individual style. Although we found many photo-worthy outfits, we are sharing our top 7 with you.
When asked why they chose the clothes they do, a student replied saying, “it feels like the way I dress is an extension of myself. I want people to understand who I am as soon as I walk into a room. Without talking to me, people see I am confident in myself and who I am.” I like to color coordinate; it gives depth to pieces that alone seem boring. I pick my shirt first, figure out how I can layer it, and then choose my wash of jeans accordingly. I wear the same necklaces every day but change my rings to match what I'm wearing. I'm really into hair accessories like headbands, barrettes and hats right now.”
“I don’t plan so much as I just enjoy trying things on, mixing and matching is the best way to find inspiration. I want to see more gender-neutral outfits, things that anyone could wear. The confinement of clothing due to gender doesn’t make sense to me. I want everyone to be fluid and dress how they feel confident. Seeing people dressed in their personal styles makes me feel liberated knowing they have pride in what they're wearing.”
