The Most Iconic World Cup Moments Based On What I Saw On My FYP

This past year several things happened. However, the year’s highlight event was the World Cup. All my social media platforms over the last couple of months have been filled with news and moments from the event. My FYP (“For You Page”)onTikTok has been filled with videos about Neymar Jr., match results, memes about the players, and the world’s overall “vibe” of the World Cup. Therefore, I decided to share the moments that I deemed the most iconic, depending on the videos I saw on TikTok.

8. “METRO…. THIS WAY”

Due to many foreigners coming to Qatar to attend the event, Qatar made systems to make it easier for them to navigate around the country. One of those systems was to make workers hold signs to the metro. However, one of the workers attracted people, especially for his satisfying way of directing them.

7. Brazilian dance VS. Dabeke

While scrolling through TikTok, I saw many videos showing Qatar’s vibe during the World Cup. Most of the videos were people enjoying and experiencing the different cultures around them. One video that highlight that is a dance battle between Brazilian fans dancing the “Tubarao Te Amo” dance and Arab fans dancing “Dabeke” (a Levant traditional group dance).

6. Argentina losing to Saudi Arabia

Argentina losing to Saudi after everyone was sure they would win, claiming that it would be an easy match. It came as a shock and disappointment to many people worldwide, considering that many of them were putting big hopes in Lionel Messi. However, on the other side, it gave most Arab fans satisfaction after some people commented on how this match was going to be a training match for Argentina.

5. “Where is Messi?”

I am a firm believer that with satisfaction comes petty. A highlight of the pettiness that came with Argentina’s loss would be the meme of a man cutting off a South Korean live report to say, “Where is Messi?” as a way to make fun of Messi for losing to Saudi.

4. Palestinian flag being the most raised flag in the World Cup

Even though they didn’t get to join the World Cup, the Palestinian flag has been the most raised flag during matches. It was raised to show solidarity with the Palestinian issue and to remind Palestinians that their struggle is never forgotten.

3. Morocco qualifying to the semi-finals

For most Arabs, specifically North Africans, Morocco’s qualifying for the semi-final is a historical event. Even though soccer is a huge passion for these countries, none of them could ever reach this level in the World Cup. So, Morocco being the first Arab and African country to qualify filled everyone with a sense of pride.

2. 9-year-old Moroccan girl causing rage

Moroccan girl caused many grown-ups to get upset about her being petty after Portugal lost to Morocco. The rage came after a video of her went viral, where she was making fun of the player Cristiano Ronaldo because he had been crying since losing his last match in the World Cup.

1. Cho Gue-Sung learning Portuguese to annoy Ronaldo

Pettiness is not exclusive to fans only. It is also common among the players. An example would be when the South Korean player Gue-Sung, learned a Portuguese word to cuss Ronaldo while playing.
