The Return of Spidey-Pool

Updated: Dec 14, 2022

With the rise of Deadpool 3 coming out in 2023, there have been a lot of rumors and dramas surrounding it. Everything from one of an actor quitting because he thinks Ryan Reynolds hates him, the rumor of Tom Holland's Spiderman making an appearance, to the return of Wolverine and whatever that entails for the movie. Tom Holland's Spiderman making an appearance in a Deadpool movie is one of the most unlikely claims yet, and it's time to talk about it.

As always, starting from the beginning, Tom Holland basically quit. In "Spiderman: No Way Home," all the Spidermen group up to create a team strong enough to defeat Dr. Oct, Green Goblin, and Electro. This, however, was one of the last movies in Tom Holland's contract. In one interview by "Celebrity Loop," Tom Holland states, "I don't know, there's a part of me that feels like it's the perfect time to jump and swing off into the sunset and let the next lucky young kid come in to don the suit." Despite that, though, Tom Holland does feel a bit of uncertainty. He acknowledges that sometimes things happen and he may be back and keep playing Spiderman for the money. However, he puts a cap on the 30-year-old mark, stating in the same interview that if he's still playing Spiderman by 30, he's done something wrong.

Continuing , the Tom Holland's Spiderman and Ryan Reynold's Deadpool dynamic. In the comics featuring both Deadpool and Spiderman, they have nothing short of a bromance (and maybe something more, according to some fans) and are both consenting adults. Having this dynamic ruined by Tom Holland's character could have some significant backlash, especially when, in the first Deadpool movie, Deadpool had drawn a picture of them holding hands with a heart. So it'd be strange for them to have the same kind of chemistry that fans loved, and regarding the implied message of that drawing, it could cause a scandal.

Even if they did go with the option of using a dynamic as they had in The Ultimate Spiderman, it still causes a plot hole. Because in the Ultimate Spiderman they have a mutual hate for one another. Which is based on mistrust, and Wolverine and Spiderman have the same problem. In this case, it'd make no sense for Spiderman to be there at all, seeing as how all the Deadpool movies so far have the mission of personal gain.

Judging by pure dynamics, it's a dud.

And finally, it may be too much for the movie to handle. Along with the strange dynamics, Tom Holland is nowhere to be found in the trailer. As many know, Wolverine and Deadpool never shy away from blood, but Spiderman does. This can cause an annoying moral dilemma anytime they kill people (which will happen often). Added to the fact that now he's a teen, it'll end up being a slope to making Spiderman's own morality the conflict of the movie. Distracting from the stars, Deadpool and Wolverine diverge any main plot they have in store, making it feel like Deadpool 2 or, even worse, like a Spiderman movie.

All in all, adding Tom Hollands Spiderman to the new Deadpool is highly unlikely and extremely risky. Unless the creators decide to create and make an entirely different dynamic and storyline for the two, it won't happen. But, just because Tom Holland's Spiderman won't be in it doesn't mean that the possibility of a new Spiderman, perhaps specific to the Deadpool universe, won't. There's still time for the news to change, but still: gauge your expectation.
