There are eight Eevee evolutions in Pokémon Go, with various tricks to get the one you want. Depending on the names you give them when you evolve them and how friendly you are, the simple Eevee can evolve into a range of variations. It makes Eevee one of the most interesting creatures in the game, being a simple way to vary your roster types. Eevee's evolutions, or Eeveelutions, are plentiful, and cover a range of Pokémon types; Water, Electric, Fire, Psychic, Dark, Grass, Ice and Fairy.
In this article, I will explain how to trigger all the different evolutionary paths available to Eevee, and pick apart which one might be the strongest. According to numbers, at least.
The easiest way to evolve Eevee in Pokémon Go is to use a specific nickname. Trainers can guarantee any of Eevee's evolutions once, each using a particular nickname. For example, simply nicknaming your Eevee one of the unique names below will grant you the Eeveelution of your choice - use 25 Eevee candies, and your Eevee will evolve to the evolution with the corresponding nickname.
Remember that you can only do this once per evolution, so choose carefully. After that, you're down to luck, certain conditions, and maybe a special event to have any control over what you get.
Vaporeon, this water Pokémon has the ability to control water freely. Known as the "Bubble Jet Pokémon." Vaporeon underwent a spontaneous mutation and grew fins and gills that allowed it to live underwater. Trainers can rename Eevee "Rainer" to guarantee a Vaporeon.
Jolteon, known as the "Lightning Pokémon," Jolteon is an electric type. Its cells generate low electricity, amplified by its fur's static electricity, which is formed of electrically charged needles. This trait allows it to drop thunderbolts. Trainers can rename Eevee "Sparky" to guarantee a Jolteon.
Flareon, the "Flame Pokémon," is a fire-type with fluffy fur that releases heat into the air to keep its body from getting too hot. Its body temperature can rise to a maximum of 1,650 degrees Fahrenheit. Trainers can rename Eevee "Pyro" to guarantee a Flareon.
Espeon, the "Sun Pokémon," is a psychic-type and loyal companion to any trainer it deems worthy. Espeon developed its precognitive powers to protect its trainer from harm. Trainers can rename Eevee "Sakura" to guarantee an Espeon.
Umbreon, the dark type "Moonlight Pokémon," evolved from an Eevee's exposure to moon waves. Umbreon hides in the darkness, waiting for its foes to make a move. Its yellow rings glow when it leaps to attack. Trainers can rename Eevee "Tamao" to guarantee an Umbreon.
Leafeon, the "Verdant Pokémon," gets its nutrition from photosynthesis. This grass-type lives in deep forests with clean rivers. Trainers can rename Eevee "Linnea" one time to guarantee a Leafeon.
Glaceon, the Ice-type "Fresh Snow Pokémon," can instantaneously freeze any moisture around it, creating ice pellets it can shoot at its enemies. Trainers can rename Eevee "Rea" one time to guarantee a Glaceon.
(Note: Sylveon cannot be obtained through the nickname method.)
Espeon and Umbreon are considered the most substantial Eevee evolutions from stats alone. The psychic type Espeon has almost the highest possible CP, beaten only by Sylveon, and the highest possible attack overall. On the other hand, Umbreon, a dark type, wins on second highest defence and the best Stamina. Just behind those two, the already mentioned Sylveon, as well as Glaceon, also place decent stats overall without having anything that's class leading.
Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon are the first Eeveelutions in Pokémon Go - the classics. These are relatively easy to obtain by feeding your Eevee 25 candies after using one of the nicknames we mentioned above: Vaporeon/Rainer, Jolteon/Sparky, or Flareon/Pyro. Once done, however, the evolutions become random, and there's no way to tell what Eevee will evolve. That said, as it costs so little to trigger an evolution and Eevees are easy to find, you can grind to get what you want again.
Espeon and Umbreon add some Gen 2 Eeveelutions and can be obtained by simply having Eevee as your buddy and walking with it for 10km. Once done, evolve your Eevee during the day for Espeon and at night for Umbreon. Always check the colour of the sky in-game to ensure what time of day Pokémon Go thinks it is, just in case it doesn't match up with the real world.
Leafeon and Glaceon are a little more complicated, as you'll need two in-game items when you evolve your Eevee at a Pokestop. A Mossy Lure will give you a Leafeon, while a Glacial Lure will give you Glaceon. These can be purchased from the in-game store and work like standard lures, except they attract Pokémon of specific types.
Sylveon has the lengthiest method for obtaining it, but it's worth it. First, getting Sylveon involves making friends with it - make Eevee your buddy and earn 70 hearts with it. It will take a while, but you can speed things up if trainers can maximize the number of hearts reached each day. Finally, when the silhouette in the evolution area of Eevee's in-game information screen shows Sylveon, you've got enough hearts.
